Ever since the anime hit the world by storm, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba continues to gain more and more popularity amongst anime and manga fans and enthusiasts. The characters are not just endearing, but very relatable as well, especially as you follow along Tanjiro and his crew as they battle demons and try to find a cure for Tanjiro’s sister, Nezuko.
For cosplayers and convention-goers, though, choosing a favorite character to cosplay can be a difficult decision, as each character (from Tanjiro and his friends to the Hashiras of the Demon Slayer Corps) has his or her own very interesting character designs and personalities. And even then, you also have to consider the Demon Slayer swords that each character wields and how these swords reflect on their individual characters.
That said, the series has some of the coolest-looking katanas you’ll find in any anime series. So if you want to base your decision on the types of swords that the characters carry, here’s a shortlist of some of the coolest Demon Slayer swords to choose from.
Mitsuri Kanroji’s Love Breathing Nichirin Katana
Dressed in a somewhat pink-tinted version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform and short pleated skirt underneath her white haori, Mitsuri’s a perfectly cool character to cosplay in. Emotional, rather shy, and very kind, Mitsuri seems to have a gentle and innocent demeanor about her. However, when it comes to demons, she can be very serious to the point that she will show no mercy.
Though considered to be the slowest runner among the hashira, Mitsuri’s attacks are incredibly fast. This is partially on account of her blade’s capability of being unbelievably flexible to the point that it behaves somewhat like a whip. And while your cosplay blade may or may not be as flexible as Mitsuri’s is in the series, its pink blade and hilt are beautifully designed. Add to that the words “Destroyer of Demons” etched onto the blade.
Giyu Tomioka’s Water Breathing Nichirin Katana
If you’re looking for someone cool to cosplay as, then why not choose one of the most cool-headed characters in the series? Besides Giyu’s red, green and yellow haori, the deep blue tones of his nichirin sword instantly stand out. Its white and blue handle, and red and white hexagonal guard give a strong impression despite its seemingly simple design. Cosplayers going for the calm and collected image are sure to find a kindred soul in Giyu.
Obanai Iguro’s Serpent Breathing Nichirin Katana
The Serpent Hashiraa, Iguro, tends to be very harsh and strict with his Demon Slayer peers to the point of his expectations being somewhat unrealistic. His Nichirin katana’s wavy form somewhat resembles a Kris, an asymmetrical Indonesian dagger. The shape is modeled after a twisting snake, with a gold circular hilt engraved with snakes. Very cool, if not incredibly fascinating blade to cosplay with.
Kanao Tsuyuri’s Flower Breathing Nichirin Katana
Fans of the flower-breathing Hashira will instantly fall in love with Kanao’s katana. Her blade light pink and her circular hilt bejeweled by five-leafed flowers, Kanao’s katana fits her quiet and reclusive character. Like a budding flower, it’s when Kanao starts to open up to Tanjiro and the others, and later on be more capable of expressing her emotions, that she starts to bloom. Those that can relate to Kanao’s struggles and trauma will feel right at home cosplaying as the young Flower Hashira.
Inosuke Hashibara’s Beast Breathing Dual Nichirin Katanas
Rough around the edges, and yet at the same time incredibly endearing, Inosuke is one of the few Demon Slayers to wield two blades at the same time. Their chipped and serrated edges match Inosuke’s personality perfectly. Made to tear through flesh rather than make clean cuts, Inosuke’s blades don’t have hilts or sheaths. Instead, he uses bandages to grip onto them. If you’ve got the abs to flaunt your Inosuke cosplay, there are no cooler dual blades than his.
Zenitsu Agatsuma’s Thunder Breathing Nichirin Katana
Nothing could possibly stand out more at a convention than Zenitsu’s golden hair and yellow and orange haori. Equally stunning, however, is Zenitsu’s Nichirin sword. Streaked with lighting bolts across the blade and decked with white and gold guard and hilt, Zenitsu’s blade is one that would definitely be cool to wield at an event.
Of course, there are still several other Demon Slayer swords contained within the Demon Slayer series that are just as interesting in design, whether you’re planning on cosplaying with them or setting them on display. If you’re looking to find well-made and crafted replicas of the Nichirin swords in the series, we recommend checking out Ice Imports’ selection. Made with carbon steel, their replicas capture all the small details of the katanas in the series and are unsharpened, making them perfect either for cosplay or display.
